Thursday Games Night at Fortress: Meet Friendly People in the City

Looking for a relaxed way to meet new people in the city? Come and play. Come and make some friends.

WHAT IT IS

A weekly games night every Thursday at Fortress Sydney, a fantasy-style tavern and gaming venue in Chippendale with hundreds of board games, a restaurant and a full bar. Grab a seat, join a table and get chatting with people who are easy to talk to. Complete beginners are very welcome, and most people come on their own.

Every Thursday from 7:00 PM to about 9:30 PM

WHO IT'S FOR

Anyone who enjoys games, good conversation and making new friends. All backgrounds and beliefs are welcome, and open-minded, curious people are our favourite kind. You don't need to know any games, bring anything or know anyone.

HOW IT WORKS

Register for free so we can save you a spot. Turn up around 7:00 PM, say hi, and we'll get you into a game. Fortress is free to walk into, and you can order food and drinks there if you like.

WHO'S BEHIND IT

This night is hosted by Sydney International Christian Church. We're a friendly crowd who love a good game and good company. Nobody gets preached at, and if you ever feel like chatting about life or faith, we're glad to. If not, that's fine too.

WHAT YOU CAN PLAY

Fortress has a huge board game library (100 games are listed for the Sydney venue alone), and you are welcome to bring your own. Here is a taste. The library changes, so ask the Fortress team on the night.

Big board games: Catan, Carcassonne, Azul, Splendor, Everdell, Scythe, Root, Dune: Imperium, Spirit Island, 7 Wonders, Pandemic, Kingdomino and Hive.

Party and word games: Codenames, Dixit, Mysterium, One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Telestrations, Scattergories, Cranium, Bananagrams, Monikers, Herd Mentality and Skull.

Card games: Exploding Kittens, Monopoly Deal, Sushi Go!, Hanabi, Cockroach Poker, Bang!, Spot It, Quiddler, Happy Salmon and Here to Slay.

Classics: Jenga, Connect 4, Battleship, Monopoly and Quoridor.

New to board games? Start with King of Tokyo, Sushi Go!, Dungeon Mayhem or Exploding Kittens. They take a few minutes to learn.

MORE DURING THE WEEK

Sundays at 10:00 AM: church in the Sydney CBD, with worship, a Bible message and coffee beforehand.

Wednesdays at 7:00 PM: a relaxed midweek meetup near Central Station, with worship, games and a Bible talk.

Fridays from 6:30 PM: Youth Friday in Glebe, with free dinner, a Bible talk and games.

Online: Christian Gamers Crew for League of Legends, Overwatch and more.
