Question 1

What type of projects can I work on?

Accepted Answer

This course is designed to work on beginner/advanced beginner garments such as a t-shirt, basic pants, or an everyday dress. The focus is on fit and techniques for everyday clothing, not necessarily a wedding dress, very delicate fabrics, or couture techniques. If you're not sure - get in touch.

Question 2

Do I need to bring a pattern?

Accepted Answer

Ideally yes. Otherwise you can choose something to purchase from The Nest at your own cost, but this would take time away from working on your project. If you're not sure where to start - please get in touch ahead of time and I can make some suggestions.

Question 3

What about lunch?

Accepted Answer

Tea and coffee station, plus light refreshments (bickies and fruit) provided. There will be a half hour break for lunch - you can BYO or order from one of the nearby venues at your own cost

Question 4

Should I bring my fabric?

Accepted Answer

Please bring practice fabric for fitting. Bring along your good fabric if you already have it, or purchase on the day at The Nest at your own cost. If possible, please pre-wash and dry the fabric as you would the finished garment to reduce the chance of shrinkage later.

Question 5

Can I trace a pattern from my favourite t-shirt, shorts, dress, etc?

Accepted Answer

Yes - I can help you to trace and modify a pattern from a basic existing garment. E.g. t-shirt or shorts.  This would not include more complex or unique design features to protect intellectual property of the designer, but can be a great place to start getting a good fit.

Question 6

Will I go home with a finished garment?

Accepted Answer

Unlikely. A simple project a few hours to sew with no adjustments. You'll likely need to continue to work on it at home, or book for another group session to keep working on it. Once you've got that pattern fitted - you'll  make it quicker and with consistent results and have a wardrobe you love!

Who is running this workshop?

Accepted Answer

Tahnee (she/her) has been sewing clothing for herself, for special occasions and every day wear since her teenage years. Short courses in pattern making and drafting plus qualifications and experience in workplace training and teaching have lead to now helping you sew your own clothing.
