About this event

Join us at the Margaret Martin Library in Randwick for a monthly Movie Club! Be treated to delicious popcorn and meet new friends while enjoying a great movie, followed by a discussion and review of the film over a cup of tea or coffee.

Dates: The Club meets on the third Friday of each month: 19/1, 16/2, 15/3, 19/4, 17/5, 21/6, 19/7, 16/8, 20/9, 18/10, 15/11 and 20/12, from 2.00-4.30pm.

Movie Club Program 2024:

January 19: The Father (1hr 36mins, Drama 2020, PG13) Anthony suffers from dementia and is cared for by his daughter, Anne. But when Anne decides to move to Paris and Anthony must deal with this change, he finds himself losing his grip on reality.

February 16: Driving Miss Daisy (1hr 39mins, Drama 1989, PG) An old Southern Jewish lady and her African American driver develop a bond that improves over twenty years. This teaches them about deaths, racial discrimination, and other valuable lessons of life.

March 15: Ali’s Wedding (1hr 49mins, Australian Comedy/Romance 2017, M) Ali, an aspiring musician, is conflicted between fulfilling his familial obligations and choosing his dreams. Hilarity ensues when he starts lying about his academics to please his family.

April 19: The Dinner Game (1hr 16mins, Comedy 1998, PG13) Follow the life of Pierre, an editor, who, every Wednesday, attends a dinner for idiots where everyone brings the dumbest person they could find as a guest.

May 17: The Cannonball Run (1hr 36mins, Comedy 1981, PG) A talented race car driver enters an illegal race to make big money. However, his situation complicates when he finds an opponent who has the potential to defeat him.

June 21: The Book Club (1hr 43mins, Comedy/Drama 2018, PG13) The lives of four childhood friends change forever after they read 'Fifty Shades of Grey', an infamous book, which leads them to take several outrageous decisions.

July 19: The Whale (1hr 56mins, Thriller/Drama 2022, M) In a town in Idaho, Charlie, a reclusive and unhealthy English teacher, hides out in his flat and eats his way to death. He is desperate to reconnect with his teenage daughter for a last chance at redemption.

August 16: Wuthering Heights (1hr 45mins, Romance/Thriller 1939) Heathcliff, an orphan, lives with Cathy and is nurtured by her family. Soon, they fall in love, but Cathy marries her rich neighbour. After years, Heathcliff, now a wealthy man, returns in her life.

September 20: Jasper Jones (1hr 36mins, Australian Mystery/Thriller 2017, M) Fourteen-year-old Charlie's life changes when Jasper takes his help to dispose of the body of his girlfriend, Laura. He decides to look for the murderer and falls in love with Laura's younger sister.

October 18: Standing Up, Falling Down (1hr 31mins, Comedy/Drama 2019) A struggling stand-up comedian is forced to move back from Los Angeles to his hometown. However, he soon strikes up an unlikely friendship with an alcoholic dermatologist.

November 15: The Dressmaker (1hr 42mins, Australian Drama 2015, M) Tilly, a beautiful dressmaker, returns to her hometown in Australia to care for her ill mother, Molly. Armed with her sewing machine, she sets out to take revenge on the people who had wronged her.

December 20: Christmas with the Kranks (1hr 38mins, Comedy 2004, PG) The Kranks scandalise everyone when they declare that they won't be celebrating Christmas. But, when their daughter decides to visit home, they get off on a mad rush to organise a spanking Christmas.

  • You must be a Library member to attend. Library membership is free and you can join online and at any branch.
  • Due to the safety and enjoyment of participants, we are unable to admit latecomers to the room after the start time.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow the event to run on time.
  • Patrons who fail to comply with the Terms and Conditions set out above will have their tickets cancelled.
  • Your attendance at events supported by Randwick City Council may be digitally recorded through photographs and/or video recordings.
