About this event

  • 3 hours 30 minutes

Functional capacity assessments (FCA) can assist people in accessing the NDIS services, supporting them with the NDIS plan reviews and with preplanning for life transitions. This, for example, may include establishing how functional challenges would affect the transition to a new accommodation, employment, or lifestyle changes.

The NDIS website lists a number of most appropriate treating health professionals that can provide functional evidence to NDIS, with social workers being specifically named in the areas of psychosocial and 'other' disabilities.

PLEASE NOTE: This training is specially designed for social workers and is social work specific in its nature. If you are a developmental educator, please access our multidisciplinary training here:

https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/functional-capacity-asessment-md-tickets-571519679747

If your professional background is different from social work or developmental education, please consult with your professional board or association to confirm, if NDIS functional capacity assessments are within your scope of practice. Please do this prior to registering for our multidisciplinary training (as per link above).

The completion of the FCA report requires both, discipline-specific and multidisciplinary skills and knowledge of assessment domains and tools. An average FCA completed by social workers consists of 16-25 pages and encompasses discipline-specific psychosocial assessment, strength assessment as well as the assessment of presenting risks and challenges. Accordingly, functional capacity assessment reports by social workers present information about health, physical, cognitive, mental health, social, interpersonal, cultural, and environmental areas that are analysed from the social work and multidisciplinary perspectives. The functional capacity information obtained in the process of assessment is cross-validated by a range of standardised, evidence-based assessment instruments that are recommended by the NDIS as the best practice in evidence.

H-L Therapy Functional Capacity Assessment Training is based on years of clinical assessment experience and provides a comprehensive framework, knowledge, and insight from the practitioner's perspective. It covers the indicators for Functional Capacity Assessments by social workers. professional and NDIS guidelines that inform our practice in this area, the assessment domains, the type of discipline-specific and multidisciplinary assessment instruments that may be used for cross-validation of results, and the discussion on what information is useful to include in each FCA report.
