Event description
Get inspired by talks from renowned scientists, engineers and doctors who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

About this Event

QueersInScience proudly invites you to the LGBT STEMM Day Symposium Friday July 5th 2019, the first Australian symposium for LGBTQIA+ researchers and their allies working in STEMM. See more at https://www.symposium.queersinscience.org.au/

You will hear inspiring research talks from leading LGBTQIA+ STEMM researchers including Dr Penny Whetton (climatologist), Dr Tana Tan (engineer), Dr Jaclyn Pearson (Microbiologist), A/Professor Penelope Bryant (paediatric infectious disease physician), Professor David Balding (Statistical Geneticist) and many more.

This will be followed by a panel discussion with leading researchers Professor Julie Owens (Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research), Dr Toby Merson (Neuroscientist) and others discussing their lived experience of being a LGBTQIA+ identified individual in the Australian STEMM fields.

We will relocate over the road to the spectacular rooftop Tapestry Lounge at WEHI for a social networking and poster session.

Additional information: Tickets are $25 for full admission (plus fees). Student and concession tickets will be $10 (booking fee exempt). If you have any financial difficulties, please contact us.

All tickets include lunch and afternoon refreshments during the Symposium at the Florey, followed by drinks and canapés during the networking and poster session at WEHI.

Submit an abstract today and showcase your own exciting work or ideas! There are lots of prizes to win!

Please note, both The Florey and WEHI are accessible venues.
