HASS and Indigenous Research Data Commons Symposium 2024

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to the HASS and Indigenous Research Data Commons Symposium to be held online and in person at the Woodward Conference Centre, Melbourne/Naarm, on 18 and 19 June 2024.

The Symposium will showcase the research infrastructure we are creating in the HASS and Indigenous Research Data Commons (HASS and Indigenous RDC).

Partners from the HASS and Indigenous RDC will outline achievements, impacts and the potential for improved research outcomes that the RDC supports.

Program highlights include:

• hear an overview of the HASS and Indigenous RDC
• learn about research infrastructure for the humanities, arts, social sciences and Indigenous studies.
• discuss Indigenous Data Governance, Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property and allyship within the HASS and Indigenous RDC
• learn more about the projects entering phase 2 of their development, and the new projects being formed under the HASS and Indigenous RDC
• network with the HASS and Indigenous research data community.

About the HASS and Indigenous Research Data Commons

The ARDC’s HASS and Indigenous Research Data Commons is establishing long-term, enduring national digital research infrastructure. It supports researchers in harnessing research data to enhance Australian social and cultural wellbeing, and helps us understand and preserve our culture, history and heritage.

Last year, the HASS and Indigenous RDC was awarded $25 million from the Australian Government’s 2023 National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) Funding Round, which is in addition to the $8.9 million received from NCRIS to establish the HASS and Indigenous RDC, which was launched in 2021.

The HASS and Indigenous RDC has 6 focus areas/projects:

1. Improving Indigenous Research Capabilities
2. Language Data Commons of Australia
3. Social sciences
4. ARDC Community Data Lab
5. Creative arts
6. Media(ted) data
