Overview & practice of varied Urban Sketching styles with Peter Richards in a relaxed workshop with wine & cheese.
About this event
This relaxed workshop will be conducted in the gallery during the urban sketching exhibition. I will provide a detailed guided tour of the exhibition, looking at the works and observing the subjects, approaches and techniques of the various urban sketchers.
This will provide interesting insights to the various approaches to urban sketching. We will select one or two works to interpret and emulate, and sketching inside the gallery will be possible.
Objectives:
Develop understandings through looking at the work of others.
Improve skills in observation, composition and drawing techniques.
Workshop Outline:
We will start with a short talk about my urban sketches then head in to the gallery to
look at the exhibition. We will choose a couple of works that we will emulate using
coloured pencils and ink.
Materials to Bring:
A4 smooth sketch paper at least 150 GSM.
Colouring pencils of various colours
Black pens: Uniball Needle point or similar.
This workshop is part of the Paddington Urban Art Exhibition, on show at the Latrobe Artspace from 20 - 24 September 2022. The show displays work by Brisbane Urban Sketchers who have been creating sketches and paintings in the suburbs in and around Paddington in preparation. As an Urban Sketcher, Peter Richards has also contributed pieces to the show.
The Paddington Urban Art Exhibition will also incorporate a glimpse into urban history, with photographs and stories curated by the local online history group Paddington Then and Now.
This exhibition is kindly supported by the Brisbane City Council, Cr. Peter Matic of Paddington Ward, Jonty Bush M.P., and Snapshot Storytelling.
