Event description

Description

A Night to Remember Gala Ball presented by Down Syndrome SA with the generous support of Foundation21 and AgriBits

This Gala Ball is for people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities aged 13 and over.

In its third year, the ball gives young people living with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities, an opportunity to experience the red-carpet treatment with a three-course meal, soft drinks, a live band and a photo booth. More importantly the ball plays a crucial role in reducing barriers to attend social events by helping young people gain confidence, increasing mental and physical wellbeing, strengthening friendships and building bridges in the community. The gala ball addresses the wider need for community engagement and inclusion through the promotion of mental wellbeing and socialization. It allows young people to build confidence, self-esteem and to feel a sense of belonging within the community.

This is a chance to get dressed up and have a great night out with your friends in a safe and welcoming environment. Down Syndrome SA staff and volunteers will be there to ensure everyone has a great time and can assist guests. The subsidised tickets includes a 3 course meal, soft drinks, live band, photo booth and dancing.

Please not the finishing time is 11pm and doors will only be opened at 10:45pm. If you need to pick up guests earlier than 10:45 please contact us to arrange. Please ensure guests are picked up no later than 11:15pm.

When you select the green button 'tickets' you will be able to advise on any dietary, medical and behavioural issues as well as provide information about the guest and parent/guardian.

FAQs

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, save a tree, we will have a list on the door

Can I choose who I sit with?

If you have a group of 10 (exactly) you can book your own table. Select 'Group' under tickets and choose a name for your group/table, then invite your friends to join. You can book and pay separately under the group name.
If you don't have a group of 10, you can list a few friends on the ticket form and we will do our best to sit you with them.

Can I bring my sister/friend/neighbour?

Due to restricted numbers this event is only for people with disabilities. You can bring a date/friend who also has a disability

Is there alcohol provided?

No, this is an alcohol free event

Can parents stay?

Part of this event is cultivating independence and so we ask that parents enjoy their own night out and let their child/caree enjoy theirs! My top local picks are Nordburger, Joiners Arms, New Local Eatery & Lady Daly Hotel!
Carers who are needed for serious behaviours, hygiene and toileting are allowed to stay, see information below.

What are the rules for carers?

If your son/daughter/caree requires special, individual support for medical or behavioural reasons, you are able to bring your own carer at your own cost. Please note that carers will not be served a meal or drinks
