James Phelps is a classroom teacher with twenty four years experience teaching all subjects to all age groups in both state and independent primary schools. He is currently on staff at Epping North Public School where he is the K-8 CCT specialist.

He is also the designer of an innovative K-8 program called Minds Wide Open (aligned to the Australian Curriculum's CCT Learning Continuum) whereby students are taught explicitly how to think critically and creatively. He has created an array of evidence-based learning activities and teaching tools that primary educators can use to foster these essential 21st century competencies. His program is currently being used in over 200 schools across NSW.

James also trains and advises teachers on how to integrate and embed CCT into their classroom routines and programs. He spoke at the Northern Sydney region IOnTheFuture conference and now presents NESA Quality Teaching Council approved professional learning workshops in schools across the Sydney metropolitan area and in regional cities.
