About this event

  • 1 hour

Over seventy years has passed since Mira Unreich was freed from a concentration camp in Germany. On the spring day in 1945, she found herself alive, against all odds. In the decades that followed, she never explained the mystery underpinning her survival. What happened to Mira all those years ago?

For journalist Rachelle Unreich, her mother's experiences as a Holocaust survivior were an integral part of her family's history. But when faced with Mira's illness, Rochelle sat down with her mother to explore those stories in more detail - driven by her personal motivation to gain a better understanding of how a woman who had been through so much trauma could remain so resilient and positive.

A Brilliant Life explores one of the darkest times in human history, while also celbrating the love of family and the power of the human spirit.

Rachelle Unreich has been a journalist for 37 years, including seven years in the United States where she wrote about the entertainment industry. Her work has appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, The Age, Sydney Morning Herald, Australian Financial Review, Elle, Rolling Stone, Good Weekend, and she has been extensively published in the US, the UK, and Southeast Asia. She lives in Melbourne, Australia.

Claire Halliday is a freelance writer, author, copywriter and interviewer, with five non-fiction books and numerous articles in leading publications. She is currently working on a new book and accompanying podcast. Claire hosts regular In Conversation events for libraries, bookshops and organisations, and her insightful questions always make for an enjoyable evening.
