Zach Green – The Storyteller Chef
Discover Indigenous food, culture and storytelling with Zach Green – The Storyteller Chef at York Town Hall on Saturday 24 January.
This live cooking demonstration offers a rare opportunity to learn about native ingredients, traditional techniques and the stories that shape each dish — with tastings to enjoy along the way.
Chef Zach Green is a proud Gunditjmara and Palawa man based in the Pilbara region of WA, known across Australia as The Storyteller Chef. His cooking blends native ingredients, open-fire techniques, and cultural knowledge to create dishes that are as much about connection as they are about flavour.
For Zach, every meal is an opportunity to share the voices of his Elders, the history of his people, and the stories of Country itself. His storytelling is woven through each plate — drawing on traditional knowledge and local foods to share the spirit of place and community. From large-scale festivals to intimate gatherings, his food is more than sustenance: it’s an invitation to learn, connect, and reflect.
Zach’s mission is clear — to preserve and pass on Indigenous knowledge through food, creating impact one plate, one story, and one community at a time.
