This is a 14-hour course which is delivered as a 2-day training package (7 hours per day plus 1 hour of breaks throughout the day)
Daily schedule: Course starts at 8:30 runs till 4:30 each day
Become a Youth MHFAider to support young people aged 12 to 18.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid course will teach you how to assist adolescents wo may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence based Action Plan.
LEARN PRACTICAL FIRST AID SKILLS • Recognise common mental health problems in young people • Provide initial help using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan • Seek appropriate professional help, and • Respond in a crisis situation
TRAINERS PROFILES
Catherine Fitzgerald (BSW AASW MHFA Principal Master Instructor Catherine is an experienced mental health professional, counsellor, educator and trainer with decades of experience working within a variety of sectors including mental health, tertiary education, & community organisations. She draws from her wealth of experience and a diverse range of qualifications within the fields of Social Work, Education, Psychology & Mental Health
Her company TSC Services is the chosen MHFA provider for a range of organisations within the corporate and community sector and has been providing MHFA training for 12 years. With her extensive experience and skills in the development and delivery of training programs, Catherine is able to provide tailored and industry-specific training to meet your organisational goals.Previously Catherine worked extensively in the mental health sector in both inner-city & rural & remote locations. Her experience extends across the life span working in child, adolescent, and adult mental health services both in the community and inpatient settings. Catherine has held senior mental health positions in a number of area health services in both NSW & Queensland.
Mark Kearns BSW M.Sc.(Mental Health) MHFA Principal Master Instructor Mark has professional training in Social Work and has a Master of Science (Mental Health) degree and he is an experienced mental health professional. He has 20 years’ experience in mental health settings based in Community Health working in child and family, adolescent and adult mental health settings. Mark also has extensive experience in the tertiary sector with different universities in various roles including Head of Service, educator & trainer in mental health and counsellor for staff and students.He has an extensive background and training in the mental health sector. Mark is an accredited principal master trainer in both the Adult and Youth Mental Health First Aid programs.
