Yurri Catering will serve delicious, indigenous-inspired food platters and a variety of light and alcoholic refreshments to accompany an illustrated presentation by Susan McCulloch OAM and a silent art auction featuring ten, Kaiela Arts, artists.


The Passionate Collector: the Significance of Public and Private Collections in the Development of Australian Aboriginal Art

In this illustrated talk, art writer, adjunct professor and consultant Susan McCulloch OAM will explore the pivotal role private collectors and public collections have played in the development Australian Aboriginal art over more than 70 years- from Arnhem Land’s bark art of the 1940s, the desert art of 70’s and 80’s to today’s initiatives that include emergent themes for collectors, in south east, northern Victoria and beyond.

Susan McCulloch is a Victorian-based art writer, author, publisher, speaker, curator and art consultant. She is co-author and publisher of McCulloch’s Encyclopedia of Contemporary Aboriginal Art: the complete guide and co-director of the art company McCulloch and Mc Culloch.

She has been both a book publisher and feature art writer for major newspapers since 1978 including for 11 year’s as The Australian’s visual arts writer and national art critic. Susan has had a longstanding interest in Aboriginal art and culture and travels widely to many art-producing communities throughout Australia on a regular basis.

In 2011, she received the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to publishing and writing and in 2013 was appointed adjunct professor at RMIT. She is based in the artistically-significant family home gallery, Whistlewood, at Shoreham on the Mornington Peninsula.
