Writing in your own words

Do you know how to paraphrase an idea you want to use in your writing? Do you know how to summarise a passage, or even an entire article or book? This session is for all students and includes practical strategies to develop your academic writing skills.

At the end of this session students will be able to:

• Identify differences between quoting, paraphrasing and summarising
• Be aware of possibilities of when to use each method
• Be aware of some strategies for paraphrasing and summarising
• Consider paragraph structure and language use for reporting the work of others.
