Nalbinding Rug Making with Bec Andersen

Cost: $120 per person, limited to eight places

Duration: 5 hours

About the workshop:

Nalbinding is a simple knotting technique that is sometimes called toothbrush rug making. It is an ancient form of knitting used for making rugs, hats, baskets and even pet beds.

This is upcycling at its very best! In this workshop you will learn how to transform old sheets and yardage with dye to create the colors you desire, and then make rugs from them.

You will have the opportunity to add to the communal dye pot and take home your transformed yardage.

Included in workshop ticket:

  • Tuition in nalbinding technique

  • Communal dye pot

  • Fabric (but you can bring your own, see below)

  • Light refreshments

What to bring:

  • Old sheets (optional)

  • Sewing scissors (some provided, but your own are always best)

  • Plastic bag/bucket for taking wet fabric home

  • Please wear closed shoes

  • Extra cash, optional extra to purchase a nalbinding tool to keep for $10

About Bec Andersen:

Bec Andersen is a textile artist who specialises in the design and production of hand-tufted rugs. Her rugs are made from 100% wool, which she dyes using a combination of natural and synthetic dyes.

A Graduate Diploma in industrial design formed the basis for Bec’s design methodology: to combine the sensual qualities of textiles with the functionality and demands of everyday living.

Bec is based at Tamborine Mountain, Queensland, has been teaching rug making in a variety of handmade techniques for many years.

Workshop Cancellation Policy:

Please note: this workshop can be cancelled by artisan because of unforeseen circumstances or if minimum numbers are not reached. In this event, participants will be refunded accordingly and as soon as possible.

Participant Cancellation Policy:

Workshops have limited spaces and involve preparation by the facilitator.

Bookings cancelled up to one week prior to the start of the workshop may be refunded, but a 20% non-refundable administration fee will be deducted.

Bookings cancelled within a week of the workshop commencing will NOT be refunded.

You are welcome to transfer your booking to another person prior to the workshop commencing. Please confirm this arrangement in writing to workshop@artisan.org.au.
