Workshop: Continence management at end-of-life (Mareeba)
Continence assessment, continence pad / penile sheaths / urinal bag selection and education, protective surfaces, and lifestyle changes.
This workshop is run by the Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme, with support of the First Nations Community-Based Palliative Care Program. Learn about continence management in palliative and end-of-life care. During this session we will cover;
- Principles of continence assessment
- Recommended lifestyle changes to lessen the impact of incontinence
- Selecting, trialling and organising continence aids, including pads, slips, protectors and sheaths
- Building a comprehensive continence management plan around continence aids
This is a hands-on workshop that focusses on skill development. For further learning on these topics, MASS has a range of online learning on mobility and daily living aids (see our learning catalogue here).

- Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Workers
- Nurses
- Occupational therapists
- Physiotherapists
- Allied health assistants

About the presenter
Dr Kieran Broome, Occupational Therapist
Dr Kieran Broome is an occupational therapist and clinical educator. He works as an Advanced Clinical Educator at the Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme, as well as a part-time rural generalist private practice occupational therapist.
As well as being well-versed in assistive technology in community and palliative care, Kieran has also conducted research specifically into assistive technology and end-of-life care. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and current Vice President of the Australian Rehabilitation & Assistive Technology Association.
