Working with Men who use Family Violence in Aboriginal Communities

No to Violence (NTV) is Australia’s largest peak body for organisations that work with men that use violence. NTV provides training, advocacy and development across the sector that works with men who use violence. They operate the Men’s Referral Service – online and phone counselling and referral pathways for men who use violence. As a pro-feminist organisation, women and children are at the centre of NTV’s work. By ending men’s use of family violence, families, individuals and communities are safer.

No to Violence

The Strong Aboriginal Men’s Program (SAM) and Family Violence organisations invite you to a forum at Lake Burrendong NSW, Thursday 22 – Friday 23 August 2019.
This Forum will provide an opportunity for Aboriginal communities and NSW service providers to come together and discuss the issues presenting in their communities. Forum delegates will join SAM forum members for a welcome dinner and networking opportunity on Wednesday 21 August. The forum will run from Thursday to Friday lunchtime. Together we will explore culturally safe and inclusive responses to family violence and provide recommendations on how programs can be designed with and by community.
The forum will showcase a number of family violence projects being undertaken by Aboriginal communities across the western region of NSW and other locations across Australia. It will also explore current and emerging practice in working with men who use family violence with a focus on skills development and knowledge sharing. 
The forum will be of benefit to:

There are limited free places available for Aboriginal community leaders and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation staff. For all other delegates the cost is $350 (inclusive of accommodation and catering: Welcome dinner Wednesday 21 August and all catering up to and including lunch Friday 23 August plus accommodation for 2 nights 21-23 Aug). Lake Burrendong Sport and Recreation Centre primarily hosts camps for groups. The Centre offers catered options for groups which is in the main centre area, but also has 2 self cater cottages and 4 smaller units available which we rent to the public. In order to get to the public rental accommodation, guests must drive through the Centre.

Dormitory Style Lodges
Each lodge has four rooms. Two of the rooms have 5 beds with an ensuite bathroom and the other two rooms have 6 beds with an ensuite bathroom. The rooms are temperature controlled with reverse-cycle air conditioners. Each lodge sleeps a maximum of 22 people.  
Visiting Teacher Units
These Units are in main centre complex and are close to the dormitory style lodges. There are six rooms with two single beds, ensuite bathroom, small fridge, television and reverse-cycle air conditioning. This lodge sleeps 12 people.
Lakeside Cottages
Two fully self contained cottages accommodating up to 8 people in each cottage is available for separate rental. These are about 400m from the main centre. Each cottage has four bedrooms, three bedrooms contain bunk beds and one room contains a queen size bed. Each cottage has a fully functional kitchen complete with microwave and full size oven, large family sized fridge/freezer, combined lounge dining area, two bathrooms, reverse-cycle air conditioning, TV and DVD player. A fire circle and BBQ facilities are located nearby. 
All accommodation includes reverse cycle air conditioning. The Lakeside Cottages also include crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.
