“The elite of the French Cellists” - LE MONDE

Wonderful World  is an immersive “concert-show”, imagined and created by french star cellist Christian-Pierre La Marca, as part of his commitment to raising public awareness about saving our planet as well as issues of protecting our environment.

As La Marca explains, and using his own eloquent instrument in a unique and unprecedented project of solidarity, “music has the ability to awaken consciences, to make people more sensitive, without trying to convince or mobilize them. Music is a short circuit that goes straight to the heart”. 

The cello, in the hands of Christian- Pierre La Marca, has often been compared to the human voice, in its handling of the melodic lines and curves, its flexibility, its lyrical intensity. Accompanied by stunning film, images and works by photographer and director Yann Arthus-Bertrand along with text recitations, La Marca and famed israeli pianist, Itamar Golan present an ode to nature, an apolitical vision that awakens consciousness through beauty and the artistic force of multiple arts. It questions our current global situation, the climate emergency and outlines prospects for ecological conversion. Themes speak about nature, cities, animals, endangered species, climate change… An immersive journey conducive to reflection, meditation and public awareness.

PROGRAMME

The works in this programme span from the baroque to film music, jazz and modern music. The music alternates with stunning screen images and narrations of engaging texts by the great women and men who have marked the history of ecology. These texts include poems, speeches and reflections by Lucrèce, Rousseau, Ghandi, Rimbaud, Baudelaire, De Noailles, Châteaubriand, Rhabi.

You will hear songs of wonder, questioning, wake-up calls, and songs of prayer: all are heard in the course of these twenty-six titles, reflected in the images by esteemed French environmentalist, activist, journalist and photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand.J.S. CHRISTIAN-PIERRE LA MARCA

Christian-Pierre La Marca has, in a few years, distinguished himself by his radiant presence in the world’s leading concert halls and his award-winning recordings. After making his debut in Aix-en-Provence, he studied in Paris with JeanMarie Gamard, Philippe Muller and Gary Hoffman before continuing with Frans Helmerson in Cologne and Steven Isserlis in London. His trajectory was crowned with success at international competitions in Osaka, Frankfurt, London (Philharmonia), New-York (YCA) and Vienna (Haydn). He has several times been invited to appear at the French Grammies and in different radio and television programs.

Christian-Pierre has performed in prestigious venues across the world and plays with leading orchestras : Philharmonia Orchestra, London Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, musicians from Orchestre de Paris, Les Siècles, Brussels Philharmonic, Münchener Kammerorchester, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg to name few. An accomplished baroque cellist, Christian-Pierre has performed alongside the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenments (OAE) Le Concert de la Loge (Julien Chauvin), Les Ambassadeurs-La Grande Ecurie (Alexis Kossenko) and soon with Il Pomo d’Oro (play-conduct), Arcangelo (Jonathan Cohen) and Concerto Italiano (Rinaldo Alessandrini). Christian-Pierre has appeared in major festivals (Verbier, Ravinia, Santander, Schleswig Holstein, Bad Kissingen, Mecklenburg, Schwetzingen, Trondheim, Oxford, Monte Carlo Printemps des Arts, Pablo Casals in Prades, Aix-en Provence, La Roque d’Anthéron, La Grange de Meslay, La Folle Journée, Saintes, Radio France in Montpellier). He actively collaborates with composers including Jörg Widmann, Peteris Vasks, Gyorgy Kurtag, Thierry Escaich… Equally at ease on the chamber music platform, Christian-Pierre plays regularly with prestigious artists : Itzhak Perlman, Veronica Eberle, Vilde Frang, Renaud Capuçon, Augustin Dumay, Alice Sara Ott, Kit Armstrong, Nicholas Angelich, Itamar Golan, Lise de la Salle, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, Andreas Ottensamer, Félicien Brut, Thibaut Garcia, Milos and Quatuors Ebène, Van Kuikj, Modigliani, Carducci, Hermès, Danel. His love for voices led to collaborations with singers Sabine Devieilhe, Philippe Jaroussky, Thomas Hampson, Roberto Alagna, Bernarda Fink, Karine Deshayes or Patricia Petibon. His discography reflects his curiosity as well as his loyalty to the great repertoire.

It has won numerous international awards including the prestigious Gramophone Award for his album Cello 360. Christian-Pierre La Marca records exclusively for naïve, a label of Believe Group. He is a socially committed artist who initiated in 2018 the ‘Concert for the Planet’ with the GoodPlanet Foundation and photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand, a solidarity event intended to raise funds for the environment.

He teached for several years at cello masterclasses of the Jaroussky Academy and has a class at the Paul Dukas Paris Conservatory XIIe for advanced students. Christian-Pierre La Marca is a Larsen Strings Official Artist and an ambassador for Gewa and Henle Verlag. He is wearing clothes by stylist ‘Agnès b’. He plays a unique Neapolitan cello (ca1830) with a rare J. Eury cello bow (thanks to Vocation Foundation) and a F.L. Lamy cello bow from the legendary André Navarra (thanks to Anima Foundation).

ITAMAR GOLAN

For more than two decades, Itamar Golan has been partnering the most outstanding instrumentalists of our time. His work has brought him great critical acclaim, and he is one of the most sought after pianists of his generation, playing on the most prestigious stages around the world.

Born in Vilnius, Lithuania, his family emigrated to Israel when he was a year old. There he started his musical studies and at the age of 7, gave his first concerts in Tel-Aviv.

He was repeatedly awarded scholarships from the American-Israel Cultural Foundation which enabled him to study with Emanuel Krasovsky and his chamber music mentor, Chaim Taub. Later under a full scholarship from the New England Conservatory of Boston, he was chosen to study with Leonard Shure.

Since his earliest years, Itamar Golan’s passion has been chamber music but he has also appeared as soloist with some of the major orchestras, including the Israel Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic under the direction of Zubin Mehta, Royal Philharmonic under the direction of Daniele Gatti, the Orchestra Philharmonica della Scala, the Vienna Philharmonic under the direction of Riccardo Muti and Philarhomia Orchestra under the direction of Lorin Maazel.

Over the years, he has collaborated with Vadim Repin, Maxim Vengerov, Julian Rachlin, Mischa Maisky, Shlomo Mintz, Ivry Gitlis, Ida Haendel, Kyung Wha Chung, Sharon Kam, Janine Jansen, Martin Frost and Torleif Thedeen among many others.

He is a frequent participant in many prestigious international music festivals, such as Salzburg, Verbier, Lucerne, Tanglewood, Ravinia, and has made a numerous recordings for big labels as Deutsche Grammophon, Warner Classics, Decca, Teldec, EMI and Sony Classical.

n 1991, Itamar Golan was nominated to the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music, making him one of their youngest teachers ever. Since 1994, he has taught chamber music at the Paris Conservatory. Itamar resides in Paris, where he is involved in many different artistic projects.
