Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Women Want Adventure are heading to Tasmania!

To celebrate our trip launches in one of the best places in Australia, we have a perfect trip for adventurous ladies up for an introductory kayaking day on moving water! This is a superb day offering a mix of relaxing, gentle flowing river sections and finishes with some exciting grade 2 rapids. You can do it!

Come individually and make new friends or bring your friends along! All kayaking equipment, guide / instructor services, wetsuits if it is a cooler day, morning tea, lunch and transport from Hobart or New Norfolk are included. This is perfect for first timers to kayaking and an opportunity to learn new skills in a supportive and friendly environment.

Meeting time: We will be offering 2 convenient pick up locations:

9.00am Hobart Information Centre; or

9:45am from Laskey’s carpark in New Norfolk. From here we will go in the shuttle together to the launch location.

Catching the shuttle is required as we need a pick up point together when we finish down the river. Choose one of the above locations and we will meet you there in the morning and drop you back in the afternoon.

This 5 hour kayaking tour commences in Bushy Park with a safety demonstration and brief on paddle techniques. We begin flowing with the gentle river current allowing plenty of time to get comfortable in your craft. Heading downstream the River Derwent offers sweeping views of the iconic Wellington Range as we pass under historic railway bridges and perhaps even see a platypus, a sea eagle or some acrobatic trout before stopping for a fresh gourmet riverside lunch by a local waterfall (a fantastic opportunity for some wild river swimming!).

After lunch, the river builds in momentum and tranquillity gives way to adventure as we encounter the first rapid at Broken Bridge, a novice slalom course popular with the local clubs and community before meeting the biggest challenge, the natural roller-coaster of the Train Bridge which is sure to get the adrenaline running!

The day tour ends at the fittingly named jetty “Paradise”, where group photos are taken and light refreshments are offered before making our way back to New Norfolk and Hobart.

Inclusions as follows:

  • Tuition given to level of tour.
  • Courtesy Transport to Launch Site and Return -
