Overview

Join us for a fun day out where you can improve your boating skills, gain confidence and meet other like-minded women – don't miss out!

To celebrate the month of International Women’s Day, we invite all current and aspiring female boaters for a fun and educational day at the Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre Queenscliff where you can improve your boating skills, gain confidence and meet other like-minded women!

The day will include:

  • 45 min boat trailer reversing clinics running from 9:45am – 4:30pm
  • A 2-hour session from 9:30-11:30am for those who’d like to obtain their marine licence to drive a boat or jetski
  • A boat handling information session from 12:30 pm-1:15pm
  • Time for networking over a light lunch at noon
  • Time to explore the Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre in between sessions

All sessions are free to register but bookings are essential. Come for one or all of the sessions!

Hosted by the Victorian Fisheries Authority and the Women in Fishing and Boating Network, we’re partnering with Peninsula Boat Training to deliver these sessions. These clinics are made possible through the Victorian Government’s Better Boating Fund, which reinvests boaters’ licence and registration fees into improved facilities and programs for recreational boaters across the state.

Boat Trailer Reversing Clinics

Learn how to reverse your boat trailer like a pro at our hands-on Boat Trailer Reversing Clinics.

There will be lots of opportunities to practice with 2 trailers operating throughout the clinics with 3 people per trailer.

Our expert instructors will be on hand to provide tips and tricks to help you master the art of backing your trailer with ease.

Marine Licence Training and Testing

We are also offering a free boat marine licence test from 9:30am-11:30am, where women can complete the test in a comfortable indoor setting on the day.

Participants who register for this course will receive mandatory pre-reading notes via email in advance.

Boat Handling Info Sessions

This outdoor session from 12:30-1:15pm will provide an informative overview of boat handling techniques, including demonstrations where possible, to help participants feel more confident in the whole process of launching and retrieving their boat. Tailored to the interests of the attendees, the sessions will provide an opportunity for current and aspiring female boaters to ask questions in a safe and supportive environment and receive tips and tricks on topics such as:

  • Starting the day – Launching your boat or driving it out of your berth or pen
  • Ending the day – Driving your boat back onto the trailer or back into the berth or pen,
  • Driving and manoeuvring in forward and reverse
  • Driving and turning in confined areas
  • Holding station and 3-point turns
  • Approaching and departing the dock or jetty without causing damage

Whether you're a beginner or just looking to brush up on your skills, these clinics and info sessions are perfect for boating enthusiasts of all levels. Don't miss out on this opportunity to enhance your boating experience! See you there!
