Why We Cycle - Documentary Premiere
Event Information
Description
“Why We Cycle - To the Dutch, cycling is as normal as breathing. We don’t think about it, we just do it. Perhaps the fact that we don’t think about it, is the key to the bicycle’s success in this country. But because we do not give cycling a second thought, we don’t really know what the deeper needs of cyclists are. In the documentary ‘Why We Cycle’ we take a ride with ordinary cyclists and specialists from a variety of disciplines. These conversations uncover some obvious, but even more hidden effects of cycling on people, on societies, and on the organization of cities."
The team at Flyt were so impressed by the recently released documentary on the Dutch cycling culture, entitled Why We Cycle, that they have done all they can to bring a premiere screening to Perth.
It's with special thanks to Taskovski Films that this beautifully shot and thought provoking 1hr documentary is brought to Perth. The screening will also feature a special welcome video message.
This event is kindly sponsored by the Department of Transport and all money raised from ticket sales is in aid of Perth based charity Bicycles for Humanity, to support their on-going work to provide bikes and bike workshops to communities across Africa.
After the screening we will be hosting a Q&A Panel Session with four esteemed guests:
John Carey the State Member for Perth
Brad Pettitt the Mayor of the City of Fremantle
Michelle Prior the A/Director Transport Programs at the Department of Transport
Miriam Stanborough from the community organisation Five, advocates for safe and convenient walking and cycling networks across Perth
