Become a citizen scientist for an evening and help us record Brisbane’s night-time wildlife.
Join us for a guided microbat walk starting at Preston Road Park (Minnippi), where we’ll listen for bats using a special detector that makes their echolocation calls audible to human ears. The walk will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
After the walk, we’ll drive to the B4C Sustainability Centre, where a light sheet will be set up to attract moths and other nocturnal invertebrates. While the insects arrive, there’ll be time to enjoy BYO snacks and refreshments, chat about what we’ve encountered, and hear a short introduction to moths before taking a closer look at the species drawn to the light.
What to bring & wear
- Protective clothing and closed-in walking shoes
- BYO food and refreshments and a torch
This is a relaxed, hands-on evening suitable for curious adults and families keen to learn more about local biodiversity and contribute to community science.
Presented by: Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee, Brisbane’s Big Butterfly Count and Brisbane Catchments Network.
