About this event

Explore some of the museum's 140,000 collection items in this private behind-the-scenes VIP tour.

You will be given exclusive access to the museum's collection stores and conservation lab to discover hidden gems not on display to the public, and to put on white gloves to handle selected objects and to see first hand some of the lab conservation work in progress.

Just some of the items you'll experience include coins and items recovered from shipwrecks of the 1600s to 1800s, including from the legendary Batavia, Endeavour and Dunbar , delicate hand embroidery, Indigenous artefacts, ship models and a broad range of items from commercial, naval, sporting and exploration maritime history and so much more.

Each tour runs for about two and a quarter hours and is for a maximum of 6 people. Participants will be on their feet for lengthy periods.

Unfortunately this tour cannot accommoate mobility aids or wheelchairs.

Please wear flat, enclosed shoes. Please note all bags, food and drinks, including water bottles must be left with our security staff before commencing the tour.

This tour is unsuitable for children under 12. Those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Please meet your guide at reception at Wharf 7 Maritme Heritage Centre Centre at 10.15am for tour introduction.

Wharf 7 is located just 200m behind the Museum.

Your ticket price will go towards the ongoing conservation of the National Maritime Collection.
