Description

By now you have probably heard of IoT. Things connected to the internet. Those "things" have ranged from thermometers to moisture sensors to GPS trackers, even toasters! With the large amounts of data now being collected and utilised to make better decisions, the question has to be asked: what's next for IoT?

This panel will discuss a possible evolution, from the Internet of Things to the Internet of Actions. IoA is an experiential Internet full of autonomous machines.

Over the next decade the collision of connected sensors, big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning will make automated systems faster, smarter and better able to make autonomous decisions. Whilst this means improved hardware and new user interfaces, it also requires a big rethink on what machines and bots are able to do.

The future of connectivity will see intelligent things move to new distributed autonomous systems, where they will be capable of tracking, sensing, learning, growing, responding to - and shaping - our ‘reality’. Which means increasingly, we will see autonomous machines not just doing, but possibly making decisions for us.

By 2030 we may find ourselves in an IoA world where billions of autonomous machines will use interoperable data to manipulate matter, orchestrate human activity and alter how we perceive the world.

Whether this fascinates you, or freaks you out, join us as we dive this concept. If you're interested in IoT, Big Data and AI this panel will be for you. If you like to think about machine value systems and the role of trust and technical transparency in a world of intelligent infrastructure – this discussion will enthrall. If you're wondering about where this new technology platform will reside – is it in the cloud, on the edge or in the devices? – this panel will enlighten. And what ethics, values and governance models will we need to choose to embed in this intelligent infrastructure to optimise its human application? All, and more, to be discussed at Telstra Labs.
