Presented by: Dr James Bell
After training in internal medicine, Dr Bell specialized in Addiction Medicine. He was a leading figure in the developing of training programs in Addiction, and in the achievement of specialty recognition of Addiction Medicine in Australia. He has held senior positions in Sydney and at the National Addiction Centre in London. His major research interest is in opioids and the management of opioid dependence. In the UK he led a working group to improve management of pain in people with a history of opioid dependence.
Professor Bell will reflect on what he has learnt from working 3 decades in the field of addiction including: who should receive treatment; the importance of dosage; mortality studies; the place of buprenorphine in withdrawal and maintenance.
