Join us at Ryde Library in recognition of National Reconciliation Week for a special workshop event. Murrawarri artist, Dr Virginia Keft, invites you to Weaving Connections, in the Library. Connect with others while you learn about Aboriginal weaving techniques, share a story, and discover a new skill. Participants are invited to take their creations home or contribute to a collaborative weaving artwork. No prior experience is necessary; whether this is your first time or you are a master weaver, all are welcome. Weaving materials will be provided.

This is an all-ages, all-ability and all-gender workshop. People with disability are welcome to attend, please bring your carer/support person with you if you require assistance to participate in the workshop. Note – carer/support person is not required to book a ticket/pay, please just indicate attendance in the booking form.

Please note - this session has a 12.45pm arrival time for a 1.00pm event start time. Latecomers (i.e. after 1.15pm) will not be able to be admitted into the workshop.

About the Artist

Dr. Virginia Keft is a proud Muruwarri woman. She is an award-winning multi-disciplinary artist and curator, First Nations producer, and researcher. Her practice includes weaving, painting, drawing, and sculpture and celebrates connections to place, community, and Country. Dr Keft was recently announced winner of the 2024 Grace Cossington Smith Art Award. Virginia is the producer and curator of bangawarra Art Yarns: for older and Elder mob at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Australia. She is also the project lead for Weaving Collective, which will oversee the creation of a weaving garden on the site of the new Parramatta Powerhouse.
