Wear it Purple Day

About this Event

Join a conversation with out and proud University of Sydney students and staff for Wear it Purple Day. On August 28, The University Pride Network will host a discussion via zoom on growing through discrimination. The panel will be sharing personal stories and empowering you with practical tools and supports to traverse bullying, which is experienced by 3 in 4 young LGBTIQA+ Australian’s.

Wear it Purple Day is a time to celebrate and support LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual) young people. It was founded in 2010 by a two students from Sydney in response to the overwhelming percentages of bullying experienced by sex, sexuality and gender diverse youth. LGBTQIA+ young people are 12x more likely than their cis-gendered heterosexual peers to experience depression due to bullying and 5x more likely to experience anxiety.

This online event aims to create a safe space for our community and support you in becoming the change you want to see. Whether you are a queer person yourself or an ally, we encourage you to join us to be part of our mission to create a contemporary Australia that celebrates difference.
