Watercolour Basics & Beyond: 5 Weeks Together is a friendly, skills-focused series designed to help you build confidence, technique, and creative flow in watercolour.
Across five monthly sessions, you'll learn essential foundations — from mixing colours and mastering washes, to layering, textures, composition, and creating finished artworks with your own personal touch.
Perfect for beginners and those wanting to refresh their skills. Connect, paint, and grow in a supportive small-group environment.
Week 1 — May 17
Watercolour Foundations: Tools, Washes & Brush Control
- Understanding paper, pigments, brushes
- Flat, graded & variegated washes
- Simple mark-making warm-ups
- Creating depth using water control
Week 2 — June 21
Colour Mixing & Harmonies
- Primary, secondary, neutral mixes
- Warm vs cool colours
- Limited palette exercises
- Mixing skin tones, greens, and atmospheric colours
Week 3 — July 19
Layering, Glazing & Soft vs Hard Edges
- Building depth through transparent layers
- Edge control for realism or softness
- How to avoid muddy colours
- Creating a small layered study
Week 4 — August 16
Textures & Techniques: Salt, Splatter, Dry Brush & More
- Experimenting with spontaneous and controlled textures
- Lifting paint, adding contrast
- Combining techniques into a small composition
Week 5 — September 20
Putting It All Together: A Finished Artwork
- Planning a composition
- Balancing light, colour & focal points
- Step-by-step guided painting
- Adding final details with confidence

Do I need experience?
No experience needed! This series is beginner-friendly and perfect for anyone wanting to build a strong foundation.
What should I bring?
All materials are provided.
You’re welcome to bring your favourite brush or paint if you prefer (optional).
Where is the workshop held?
At the Melbourne Central Skybridge.
Exact directions will be emailed two days before each session.
Do I need to attend all five sessions?
You’ll get the best experience attending all weeks, but each session is designed to stand alone.
Is the class indoors or outdoors?
Indoors at the Skybridge.
What if I’ve never drawn before?
That’s totally fine — you’ll be guided step-by-step.
How many participants?
Limited to 7 spots for personalised attention.
Is this suitable for teens?
Yes, children aged 12 and above are welcome, accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Will there be handouts?
Yes, you’ll receive digital handouts for key techniques and post-workshop practice.
