Waterbug Blitz Workshop - introductory level

Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee Inc. (B4C) was established as an incorporated catchment and landcare group in 1997. The success of our organisation has been achieved to a major degree by the efforts and outcomes of our services provided by the Ecosystem Services Unit.As a Social Enterprise, we reinvest the majority of our profits in supporting the environment and the community.Our activities with the community are undertaken through education and school projects, supporting bushcare groups when requested and by providing the community opportunities to be involved in tree planting, weeding and working on waterways and bushlands.Our office is located at our Sustainability Centre in Carindale.

AUSTRALIA'S WATERWAYS UNDER THE MAGNIFYING GLASS! The event will start at B4C's Sustainability Centre at Carindale before moving to a very close-by waterway site. Partially funded by Bayside Creek Catchment Group. Lunch is included. 
The National Waterbug Blitz will have scientists and citizen scientists working together to look at river health on a local and national scale! A training workshop is being offered for volunteers and professionals alike to learn how to collect and identify waterbugs, plus how use the Waterbug App. Then, you’ll have all the skills you need to do your own Waterbug Blitz at your local freshwater waterway!
The type and number of waterbugs can tell us a lot about the waterway's health. This is a great way to get an insight into your local waterway and get a great new skill! This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners interested in waterways (minimum age is 16). On the Sunday there is the advanced level which you can book into if you're also doing the Saturday workshop (or not doing the Saturday workshop but have some waterbug experience already). Doing the advanced workshop is optional. Please bring with you: - A folding chair (B4C has fold-up chairs you can borrow, you can collect on morning of workshop) - Your reusable water bottle and any snacks you may want (lunch provided) - Hat, sunscreen, insect repellent – you will be working outdoors! - Gumboots or waders - Your smart phone with The Waterbug App downloaded to it – get from Google Play or iTunes App Store
