I like stories.I played role-playing games in the late nineteen-eighties, then took a couple of decades off to tour with rock bands. When my eldest son was eight years old, we started playing together, so I've been running games for kids and adults since 2007 (I have a valid Working With Children card). Game Description:
Each year, the town calls on their allies, a peaceful goblin tribe from the western wood, to construct a trial dungeon, filled with puzzles, traps and monsters, so six youngsters can use their training to prove themselves.
Armed with your patches for lore, exploration, a spirit bond and two special skills, you pack your bag with food, water, your two best tools, and one magical treasure from your mentor. You call your bonded companion (an animal or spirit) and follow the goblin trail.
The goblins want you to succeed safely, but challenge prepares you for the wider world. The traps are sharp, but clean (to prevent infection). If things get out of hand, they (along with your pet) might step in to protect you from real harm.

Wardlings is a simple role-playing game about six young aspiring adventurers-in-training as they face their final test to earn their adventuring patch. The magical fantasy equivalent of wilderness scouts or guides, being taught what they will need to keep themselves, and those they love, safe from the dangers of the wider world. It draws inspiration from the Lookouts comics, the Wildlings RPG (among other games by John Harper) and the Wardlings miniatures from WizKids.
These wardlings are training to be clerics, druids, fighters, rangers, rogues and wizards. They have the beginnings of their skills and abilities but have never really tested them before today. It's a defining moment for them as the future heroes of their world.
The character sheets contain the barest details. Instead, the players reveal their skills and equipment in play by declaring them as the story requires. This allows each player to invent likely solutions to their challenges in line with how they imagine themselves rising to meet them. 
With the real dangers in their future, this game session is a moment to explore the fantasy adventure genre in a safe and emergent way, where glimpses of peril are cushioned by the last support structures of youth, family and culture before setting out on your own. The tone and subject matter will reflect these aims by occasionally menacing without maiming or killing characters...yet.

FAQs
Who is this game for? 
Anyone young at heart, or keen to play as a young character. This is an ideal session for parent-and-child duos or trios, and a great opportunity for new players to learn the basics of role-playing / storytelling games. If a child in your care is playing, but you're not, please be present in a supportive manner, not absent or distracting anyone from the focus of the session. Thanks!

All Ages? Really? 
This game is easiest for literate kids and their parents, but I also have dice with pips or smileys for younger players who will just need a parent's help to write a dozen words on their sheet during play. If your child can carry a conversation and focus on a story for an hour at a time, they should be able to participate! If your child is so young that they will eat the foam dice, they're welcome at the table as a mascot for a parent who's playing, but they might need an extra parent to entertain them from time to time.
Three Hours? Will there be Breaks?
We'll take ten-minute breaks each hour for food, water, bathroom visits, etc. There's also a possibility that we'll run ahead of schedule, taking earlier breaks and finishing early. If you or a child in your care need anything else, just ask me! Focus is a challenge we all need help with sometimes, and our bodies regularly surprise us.

Bring a playful and considerate attitude. Everything else will be provided.
