Walk in Her Shoes: exhibition and forum - Shepparton
Real stories. Real solutions. This moving exhibition shows what homelessness looks like in Victoria today... and how we can end it.
-
Many people associate homelessness with male rough sleepers. But nearly 60% of people coming to Victorian homelessness services last year were women.
Walk in Her Shoes, a powerful exhibition currently touring Victoria, gives you the chance to follow the journeys of three of these women, to understand more about what it's like to navigate homelessness and housing insecurity.
Join us as the exhibition and local forum stops in Shepparton at The McIntosh Centre (Thompson St, Shepparton) on Tuesday 24 February (6:30-8:30pm).
What's in store on the night?
- Immersive exhibition ā walk through a moving display of stories and portraits that showcase the resilience of women navigating housing insecurity.
- Panel discussion ā join a conversation with lived experience advocates, service providers, local MPs, and fellow community members about the challenges being faced locally, and the evidence-backed solutions that can end homelessness for good.
- Get involved ā learn about simple ways you can support change at a local level.
You'll hear from panellists and community voices:
- Celia Adams - CEO, Beyond Housing
- Diana Connell - Lived Experience Advocate
- Kim O'Keeffe MP - Member for Shepparton
- Leah Farnham, Northeast Victoria Youth Services Regional Manager, The Salvation Army
- Meg Pethybridge - Rotary Club of Shepparton South
- Cecilia Ndala - Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District Inc.
This event is presented by Council to Homeless Persons, Victoria's independent peak body working to end homelessness, in partnership with Salvation Army North East Youth Services.
It is proudly sponsored by the Municipal Association of Victoria, Community Information and Support Victoria, with support from Greater Shepparton City Council.
Register now to secure your place.
You can also catch the exhibition at Tank's Art Gallery (175 Corio St, Shepparton) in the lead up to the forum night, from 10 - 24 February.
