Visible Mending and Upcycling Workshop

Visible Mending and Upcycling Workshop

Hillview Intercultural Community CentreBentley, WA
Sunday, Apr 19 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm AWST
Overview

Learn how to repair and refresh your clothing using wool and needle felting, saving your clothes from landfill and turning them into art.

You don’t have to be an artist. You don’t have to know how to fix things or sew. You just have to care about your clothes and our planet.

Transform worn, torn or tired clothing into beautifully refreshed pieces using needle felting. Learn simple felting techniques while patching holes, covering stains, and adding texture or a design of your choice.

Guided by Cristina, a local fibre enthusiast and artist from Solstice Fibre, this is a relaxed and welcoming space. Come along, have a cuppa, meet like-minded people, and share a chat while mending your clothes (something we’ve been doing for thousands of years… until recently).

Rather than hiding imperfections, visible mending celebrates them! Turning old, well-loved garments into art. You’ll be guided step-by-step through the basics of needle felting and how to apply wool directly onto fabric to create patches, designed embellishments or subtle repairs. This technique works beautifully on knits and works for all fabrics. Some simple sewing techniques will also be shared for garments needing extra TLC.

No prior experience needed. Everything is provided (including spare pieces to practise on if you forget your own).

Come along and let’s get mending!
