Virtual Synthetic Chemistry Seminar Program (Australia - 2020)

About this Event

Due to Covid-19, face-to-face seminar programs across all Australian universities have halted. We would like to invite you all to attend this new Virtual Synthetic Chemistry Seminar Program during this difficult time in 2020. Speakers are early/mid-career researchers working in any relevant fields to synthetic organic chemistry in Australia. Each will give up to 30 min seminar about their best recent research results in this weekly program on Wednesday between 12-1 pm, on Zoom, followed by ~ 15 min question time with the audience.

Confirmed speakers of the program include:

  • Wednesday 20/05/2020: Dr Daniel Priebbenow (DECRA Fellow, University of Melbourne), who will talk about: "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue light"
  • Wednesday 27/05/2020: Dr Dong Jun Kim (Lecturer, UNSW), who will talk about: "Designing Redox-Active Molecules for Rechargeable Batteries"
  • Wednesday 03/06/2020: Dr Sinead Keaveney (MQ Research Fellow, Macquarie University), who will talk about: "Developing synthetic methodology using transition metal and dual catalysis approaches"
  • Wednesday 10/06/2020: Dr Daniel Preston (DECRA Fellow, ANU), who will talk about: "Stimuli-responsive molecules from 1,2,3-triazole 'click' ligands and metal ions"
  • Wednesday 17/06/2020: Dr Martin Peeks (Scientia Fellow, UNSW), who will talk about: “Aromaticity and antiaromaticity in molecular wires”
  • Wednesday 24/06/2020: Dr Yu Heng Lau (Lecturer and DECRA Fellow, Usyd), who will talk about: "Self-assembling protein cages for selectivity in chemical catalysis"
  • Wednesday 01/07/2020: Dr Thomas Fallon (Lecturer, University of Adelaide), who will talk about: "Substituted shape-shifters and 8p/6p synthesis"
  • Wednesday 08/07/2020: Dr Lara Malins (DECRA Fellow, ANU), who will talk about: "Electrochemically-enabled late-stage peptide modifications"
  • Wednesday 15/07/2020: Dr Carol Hua (McKenzie Fellow, University of Melbourne), who will talk about: "Supramolecular systems as chiral discriminators"
  • Wednesday 05/08/2020: Dr Annie Colebatch (DECRA Fellow, ANU), who will talk about: "Designing pyridyl-based ligand architectures"
  • Wednesday 12/08/2020: Dr Derrick Roberts (DECRA Fellow, Usyd), who will talk about: "Clickety-Split: A ‘click’-chemistry approach to pH-responsive self-immolative linkers"
