Description

Using Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality tools in the design and programming of public spaces

A Workshop by Place Jam® and Visioning Lab

This workshop introduces virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) tools to experiment and challenge the conventions of traditional spatial design practices.

With the technology at the majorities disposal via their smartphones, there is great capacity to diversify our experience of the public realm.

  • Harness technology
  • Visualise designs
  • Empower stakeholders
  • Activate spaces

VR and AR is changing the way we design, engage with, and program spaces. This rapidly evolving technology is no longer limited to specialised professions, but accessible to the masses. How can these tools be utilised in professions who shape the design and use of the public realm? We extend the invite to all those involved with curating the public realm, including:

  • Landscape Architects
  • Architects
  • Placemakers
  • Place Managers
  • Developers
  • Planners
  • Playspace Designers

Working with software such as Unity, Vuforia and Google Tiltbrush, and SketchFab, we will go out into the public realm around the venue, create design concepts for the space, work through possibilities using digital modeling, AR and VR to test the designs in-situ.

This workshop is suited to those with limited experience in the use of VR and AR but interest in understanding its potential and diversifying their practice. Skills in photoshop, CAD, Sketchup, free hand drawing, 2D and 3D visualisations will be useful, but not essential.

Join Mark Jackson from Place Jam® and Jessica Symons from Visioning Lab in this special interactive workshop.
