About our speakers

Chris McDermott joined the Centre in August 2019 and leads the Centre’s initiatives to uplift counter fraud capability across the Australian Government. Before joining the Centre, Chris helped develop and lead Service Australia’s Fraud Control Assurance Program which tested the effectiveness of over 700 fraud controls, and resulted in more than 185 fraud risk treatments. The team’s work received a Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Sector Management in 2018.

Esther Bogaart started her role as Assistant Secretary of the Fraud Prevention and Anti-Corruption Branch in AGD in July 2020. While this is her first foray into the wonderful world of fraud prevention, Esther has worked in both AGD and PM&C in various subject matter areas of policy, program, legislation and reform.

Assistant Commissioner Brett Martin is a senior executive with over 25 years’ experience in national security, law enforcement and government regulatory organisations that have spanned roles in intelligence, risk management, enforcement operations, data & analytics, and strategy. Currently leading the Transnational Crime Program within the Australian Taxation Office, Brett is passionate in developing organisations' capability to evaluate its performance, anticipate its environment and deliver innovative strategies.
