About this event

  • 6 hours 30 minutes

Angelia Dixon is a dynamic Mt Martha creative who is passionate about upcycling clothing. Her spark exploded after discovering that we already have enough clothes in existence to clothe the next six generations and the plethora of Op shops on the Peninsula helped fuel her growing love. Angelia's creativity and "no rules" approach brings artistry to upcycling, celebrating the renewal of existing textiles in a unique way.

This workshop is for you if you are new to upcycling clothing and want to gain inspiration and learn techniques you can use on any upcycling project. Check out Angelia's Upcycled Artistry Instagram page!

You will need to bring a garment to upcycle with you. A shirt, or pair of jeans, shorts or overalls and your sense of play! Cotton, flannel, denim, or linen work best with the techniques you will lean on the day. Please also bring a sewing machine and cottons, scissors, fabrics for applique and protective clothing (for paint and/or ink spattering)

Angelia will show you how to:

- consider fabrics, colour and design
- reliably crop jeans/shorts/shirts
- applique/patch and reverse applique
- work with methods to distress denim
- use stencils and fabric paint
- use a tablecloth or doilies to create a lace hem
- simply hand stitch to add details to your design

While we won't bleach our items on the day, we will discuss different bleaching methods to give different results. Using your sewing machine and these techniques you will create a unique upcycled garment to take home.

A detailed list, suggesting other items to bring along and what you can prepare before hand, will be provided after registration.
