Working photographers looking to increase their confidence and skill shooting in the studio using strobe lighting. This workshop is suitable for photographers who have some experience with strobe lighting and want to increase their skills and also for photographers who’ve never shot using strobe lighting before.

Classes are limited to 10 people, which means you’ll get a chance for 1:1 advice and focus – so whether you are a beginner or even established in the industry, you’ll be inspired and have the opportunity to expand your skills.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this workshop you will be able to:

1. Safely set up a strobe light on a stand and apply power to it.
2. Describe the various light modifiers and the effect they have on the projection of light.
3. Light a subject using three point lighting.
4. Create a high key ecommerce look by controlling the amount of light falling on the background.
5. Create a low key dramatic look by controlling the amount of light falling on the background.

Introduction to Studio Lighting

1. Overview of different types of studio lighting equipment
2. `Importance of understanding studio lighting for enhancing photography skills

Safety Measures and Setup

1. Safely setting up a strobe light on a stand
2. Applying power to the strobe light
3. Understanding safety precautions when working with studio lighting equipment

Light Modifiers and Their Effects

1. Introduction to various light modifiers (softboxes, umbrellas, beauty dishes, etc.)
2. Explaining how different modifiers affect the projection and quality of light
3. Hands-on demonstration of attaching and adjusting light modifiers

Three Point Lighting Technique

1. Understanding the concept and importance of three point lighting
2. Practical demonstration of key light, fill light, and hair/rim light placement
3. Tips for achieving balanced lighting on the subject using three point technique

High Key Ecommerce Look

1. Explanation of high key lighting setup

We will be meeting at Desk and Studio , 460a Parramatta Rd, Petersham NSW. Entrance is on Queen Street, Petersham.

What To Bring

• Digital SLR camera
• All the lenses you own – 50mm-85mm range is great, but no problem to bring what's currently in your kit
• Batteries (spares if you have them) and battery chargers
• Memory cards
• Instruction manual for your camera (if you can find it!)

If you do not have any of the items listed above, please let us know and we may be able to provide you with a camera to use on the day.

Lyn Taylor is an award-winning photographer with 20 years of experience in portrait, commercial, fashion and editorial photography, but she also has become most recognisable for her portraits of musicians, artists and comedians.
