As part of this work, we offer practice and skill-based training around recognising and responding to domestic and family violence.Our training draws upon the latest domestic and family violence research and practice frameworks, and is suitable for social workers, employees in the public sector, community workers, students and people that work closely with children and families.We believe domestic violence is everybody’s business and that all layers of society should continue to strive for its elimination. Develop an understanding of coercive control within the context of domestic and family violence

Develop an understanding of coercive control and its impacts on people’s safety, autonomy and wellbeing. Strengthen skills to recognise abusive patterns and apply best-practice approaches to assessment, risk management and responses.

As a primary responder to domestic and family violence, or someone who otherwise works directly with families, you will almost certainly encounter situations where a person is subjecting their partner or former partner to coercive control. Coercive control might be more difficult to recognise than physical violence, but it can be just as dangerous for those subjected to it.This course will develop your understanding of what coercive control is, what behaviours it can involve, why it is so harmful to victims, and what the key elements in providing a helpful response to people subjected to coercive control.WHO: for service providers working with families to learn how to recognise and identify coercive control. PRIOR KNOWLEDGE: none. DURATION: [6 hours]
