Do you want to improve your understanding of sexual assault trauma?

Are you working with clients who are likely to have experienced sexual assault or abuse?

This full day introductory workshop is for professionals working in the human services field, who may be in contact with individuals, children and families affected by sexual assault

This training would be suitable as an introduction to this field for case workers, counsellors/therapists, allied health, community workers, educators, or new graduates/employees in the sector.

Learning Objectives

What is sexual assault? Definitions, facts, myths and misconceptions

What are the impacts of childhood and adult sexual assault?

Responding to disclosures of sexual assault: How can I best support my client? What helps and what hinders: Responding through a trauma lens

Assessing needs, risk and safety

The 'ripple effect' of sexual assault: How family member/carers can be affected by a disclosure and how to support them

GCASA services – what is it we do? Understanding how we can support your work with clients, referral processes and resources

Note: This training is a pre-requisite for our other training workshops ( dependant on relevant clinical experience). It is not suitable for community members and volunteers. Community Workshops coming soon.
