Undeniable: The Evolution of Melbourne hip hop - Brisbane Premiere with Q&A
Brisbane screening featuring a live post screening Q&A with artists and director.
About the film
Hip hop is the most popular genre of music in the world. Nowhere is this more prevalent then in the city of Melbourne, Australia.
From Energy Transfer and Backstreet Boogie who brought breakdancing from the streets to the public’s attention, graffiti crews such as DMA and WCA bombing walls and trains, underground rap battles in the 1990s, to the mainstream rise of local MCs and producers in the 2000s, Undeniable captures the beats, the struggles and the triumphs of a city and hip-hop community that forged its own identity and movement.
The film also explores hip hop’s cultural impact in Melbourne and wider Australia — from fashion to music, the radio to the clubs — revealing how Melbourne’s scene created a unique voice that is now recognised on the world stage. Featuring exclusive interviews with pioneering artists such as Bias B, DJ Peril, Brad Strut, Plutonic Lab, DJ J-Red, Maundz, Ciecmate and host of others, the film shines a spotlight on the people and stories that shaped an entire cultural landscape.
Hip hop in Melbourne was never just about music — it was about identity, survival, and expression. This documentary is about giving a voice to the pioneers and showing the world that Melbourne’s unique contribution to the global hip-hop narrative and the cities impact on local hip hop culture is in fact Undeniable.
