Event description

Description

The UCL New York Alumni Club, in collaboration with the Royal Institution for Chartered Surveyors (RICS), is organising a discussion panel on the future of the urban living and working environment. The panel will include speakers from co-working and co-living providers, but also from academic thinkers in the area.

With less young people being able to afford to live in urban centers, how will the need for these living and working spaces change? Where do our panel members see the future of co-living/co-working? How do these firms fit into the urban fabric and how are they planning to gain market share? Is it a fad or the future?

There will be an opportunity for you to socialise and network with drinks and snacks after the event.

Moderator

Prof Stefan Al
Stefan Al is an architect, urban designer, scholar, educator, and author, currently serving as Associate Professor of Urban Design at the University of Pennsylvania. In his research, Professor Al aims to understand contemporary issues in architecture and urbanism

Panellists:

Irina Listovskaya, Head of Growth - The Collective
A property company with a new perspective. The Collective creates better places for people to live, work and play. They design and build homes and workspaces designed to be the perfect platforms for life in the city.

Dr Nicole McKnight, Managing Director - BioLabs@NYULangone
A premier co-working space for growing biotech startups and the latest member of the BioLabs Network. Nicole is dedicated to promoting the success of life science start-ups in New York, is an original member of NYC Tech Connect’s Advisory Panel and is excited to be contributing to the exponential growth of the biotech ecosystem.

Andy Levin, Director of Business Development - Ollie
Ollie means “all inclusive coliving” - providing efficiently designed studios and shared suites wrapped in a bundle of hotel-like services and communal living that promises to make life better -- more affordable, more convenient, and more fun -- than Craigslist and the pressurized walls of yesteryear. Andy is responsible for sourcing and closing strategic partnerships.

Prof Steven Pedigo - New York University
Steven is the director of the NYUSPS Urban Lab, an applied research center examining the intersection of real estate and cities. He is an expert and strategist in urban economic development, regional cooperation and placemaking.

Samuel J. Adler, Director of Acquisitions - Common
Common homes are designed with a “know your neighbor” mentality in mind. Shared living spaces, common amenities, and occasional outings provide for a true sense of community that’s often lacking in large cities.

This event is in collaboration with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the UCL Connect USA programme of professional and cultural development opportunities.
