About this event

  • 1 day 23 hours

Turning Tides Camp aims to bring together young people and their parents/carers to share their experiences and build connection, respect and understanding. Reach facilitators will create safe and brave spaces to practice empathy for both the young people and their parents/carers in order for them to get to know each other as people, outside of their role as parent/carer or child.

Outcomes
As with all Reach programs, Turning Tides Camp has a carefully considered purpose and objectives. It is designed to meet the following outcomes for both young people and their parents/carers:

  • Enhance personal self-awareness, self-efficacy and confidence.
  • Develop a heightened appreciation and acceptance of difference.
  • Develop or increase awareness of their impact and influence on others.
  • Establish meaningful connections, awareness, and respect between young people and their parents/carers.

Cost: $395
This cost covers both the ticket for the young person and for their parent/carer. We have subsided places available. If cost is a barrier to you/your young person attending, please email us to arrange a subsided ticket.

Who will be in the Camp from Reach?

  • Three Reach Facilitators who design, facilitate, lead and guide all the experiences for young people.
  • Additional crew members who provide peer support to young people participating, as well as support to the lead crew to ensure that activities run smoothly.
  • Two Wellbeing Professionals (social worker or psychologist) who provide additional wellbeing support to young people as required.
  • Two adult Supporters who are trained in First Aid and have general oversight for everyone involved and participating in the program.

Further information and frequently asked questions for parents and carers can be found here.

Our Wellbeing Support Framework
A framework of professional Wellbeing support underpins the design and delivery of all workshops to ensure emotional safety of all participants.
Young people are supported by trained crew and wellbeing professionals in all Reach workshops. Due to the nature of workshops, all enrollments of young people are reviewed. This may include a direct call to the young person’s parent/guardian. Reach Wellbeing staff assist young people and parents/carers to determine appropriate follow-up and referral support post-camp if necessary.
