Explore the Layers of Discipleship with Rev. Dr. Sunny Chen at Trinity Unplugged

Join us on June 20, 2024, from 6:30pm-8:30pm for an enlightening session as we delve into the depths of the topic - Discipleship Unmasked.

What is discipleship? We talk about it a lot, but rarely take the time to define it.

In this Trinity Unplugged session we will examine discipleship through the historical-linguistic lens. From the distinctive feature of the original words used in the ancient Graeco-Roman world, to the exceptionally unique appearance of one of its derivatives in the New Testament, this session will take us on a journey, exploring a seemingly simple dimension of discipleship that may have been overlooked.

Rev. Dr Sunny Chen has recently taken up the role of National Consultant with the Assembly, the national body of the Uniting Church. Sunny grew up in Hong Kong, studied theology at Dallas Theological Seminary in the United States, and then moved to Melbourne where he joined the Uniting Church. Since then, he has been a youth pastor, a minister in congregations, and a university chaplain. Before his Assembly role, he was a presbytery minister, supporting and overseeing approximately 70 worship communities in Melbourne. Passionate about education, Sunny teaches New Testament Greek and is an honorary researcher at the University of Divinity. Previously, he chaired the Ministerial Education Board that oversees Pilgrim College, a Uniting Church theological college in the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania, and was a council member of Queen’s College, The University of Melbourne. Currently, he is the vice president of Wesley College council in Melbourne.
