Trees and Forests in Oil with Catherine Ketton (Friday Morning, 4 Weeks)

Course Description

Students will learn how to transfer an image on to a canvas and how to approach the complex subject of trees and forests in easy stages. There will be a focus on colour mixing and creating colour harmony. The subject allows plenty of scope for learning about brushwork to create different effects.

During the workshop there will be plenty of instruction about managing oil paint and the use of painting mediums. We will explore the elements of a successful artwork - composition, tone, shape, contrast, as well as soft and hard edges.

In the course of the workshops students will work on two paintings.

"Trees and Forests with Catherine Ketton" is a four week course, running every Friday Morning from 9:30am to 12:30pm. The dates are as follows:

Class 1 - 2nd August

Class 2 – 9th August

Class 3 – 16th August

Class 4 – 23rd August

Materials are not included in this workshop. A material list will be available shortly.

About the Tutor: Catherine Ketton

I have been painting in oil for over twenty years and teaching oil painting for ten. I love the flexibility of oils and delight in the many ways I can work with the medium - careful layering of transparent colour like the old masters or luscious thick impasto to create robust textures. Whether I use delicate brushwork, or vigorous palette knife marks, oil is both forgiving and challenging.

So perhaps a characteristic of my work is that it can't be pinned down. I embrace my personality which wants to try everything - new styles, different techniques, yet another genre. I identify with the works of Vincent Van Gogh "I am always doing what I cannot do yet, in order to learn how to do it."

I love research in experimenting with something new. Whilst this eclectic approach is not always the best pathway for the artist, it is highly recommended for the art tutor. I have lots to offer beginning and emerging artists and I love to share my enthusiasm and skills.

MyArt Studio Booking & Cancellation Policy

Location

The entrance to the classroom is found at 16 Duggan Street, Toowoomba CBD. The classroom will be opened 15 minutes prior to commencement of the class. Tea and coffee facilities are provided, and students have access to the kitchenette and toilet facilities.

Parking

No parking facilities are provided. Street parking in the Toowoomba CBD is at your own expense. Council car parks with 3+ hour zones are available on Annand Street, Water Street, or Station Street. We advise always reading the parking signage for the day and time period you require to avoid fines. Classes with outdoor activities are attended at your own risk.

Materials

Materials are not included in the ticket price. Students are responsible for their own art materials unless otherwise stated. A materials list will be provided by Murray's Art and Framing listing each item that is required for the workshop. It is expected by the tutor that each student will arrive prepared with the required materials. If you have any questions about your materials list, please get in touch with the team at Murray’s Art & Framing.

Fees

Ticket prices ensure that we can provide professional art tutors. Each ticket covers the total duration of the event for one student to attend. Fees do not include art materials. Please book into a workshop at least one month prior to its commencement if possible. This will secure your spot in the class and allow us to confirm tutor bookings. If there are insufficient tickets booked, workshops may be cancelled.

Cancellation of enrolment by you

If you choose to withdraw from a course or workshop up to one month before its commencement, you will be charged a $25 administration fee. The remainder (minus Eventbrite fees) will be refunded. If you choose to withdraw from a course or workshop within 1 month of its commencement, you will be charged a $25 administration fee and the remainder (minus Eventbrite fees) will only be refunded if the position can be filled.

Missed Classes

Once a workshop has commenced there are no refunds. MyArt Studio cannot accept responsibility for changes to students' personal circumstances that prevent attendance. Classes missed are the student’s responsibility and are non-refundable. Students are not entitled to a discount or ‘make-up’ class if they miss a class for any course, they are enrolled in.

Cancellations of workshops by us

In the event of a class being cancelled due to insufficient enrolments, a full refund will be given.
