About this event

  • 1 hour 15 minutes

headspace Schools & Communities are excited to host an online workshop for Year 6 classes, discussing the transition from primary to secondary school.

We are inviting Year 6 groups from across the country to join our Transitions: Primary to Secondary workshop, which will be streamed live into classrooms, and hosted by our Mental Health Education Program (MHEP) Consultants.

The session will support young people to:

  • Understand how transition and change can impact mental health
  • Manage stress that can result from change in their lives
  • Build resilience and healthy coping skills
  • Strengthen sense of connection and belonging
  • Learn about help seeking and support pathways.

Workshop dates:
Schools can register for one of 22 sessions between Monday 2 September to Friday 6 September, 2024. Sessions will run for 1hr 15mins, with the first 15 mins allocated for schools to sign in and manage any technical issues.

All times are in AEST. As this is a national offer, please be sure to check your state or territory time zone when registering for a session.

Session Times:

  • WA: 1:30PM - 2:45PM
  • VIC/TAS/NSW/ACT/QLD: 3:30PM - 4:45PM

Registrations for all workshops close Friday 23 August 2024. You will be unable to register for a workshop after this date.

Safety and support acknowledgement:

Teachers and wellbeing staff will be required to monitor the emotional safety and wellbeing of students during and after the session. Please consider your students’ personal circumstances and if this is an appropriate workshop for their needs at this time.

School staff are also required to manage student behaviour throughout the session.

Further Information:

Workshops will be delivered LIVE via Zoom.

Please ensure your staff have access to the Zoom online platform – please speak with your IT department to ensure this is organised prior to the event date.

These workshops are designed to be delivered to whole classes together and not to individual students via devices. Please do not share the Zoom links with individual students or have them join the session separately.

Yr 6 classes are welcome to join the online events together, using one registration, or they are welcome to register separately and join the online events from their individual classrooms.

If your preferred time slot is fully booked, please register for the waiting list.

Teachers in each class will be co-facilitating the workshops with the MHEP Consultants and will receive a Teacher’s Guide leading up to the workshops. This guide will outline activities and discussions to be facilitated with the students during the workshop. Teachers will also be sent a student worksheet which must be printed and given out to each student before the workshop.

Teachers are asked to log in via the Zoom link provided and then project the workshop onto a projector/screen for the students to view as a group.

Classrooms must be equipped with audio and visual capabilities, which are required to engage in the workshop. Please ensure there is access to the Zoom chatbox and microphone function, to allow for engagement in activities and discussions with the MHEP Consultants.
