Come along and hear from project leaders on future work and business opportunities in North Queensland!

Forward Procurement Pipeline

Harry Venmans, Executive Director, Building Contract Management, Building Policy and Asset Management, Department of Housing and Public Works, provide an update on the Forward Procurement Pipeline that was launched by the Hon Mick de Brenni, Minister for Housing and Public Works; Minister for Digital Technology; Minister for Sport. This pipeline provides information on future procurement opportunities across government. For the Building Construction and Maintenance Category, a key outcome of the pipeline is to show that there is a continuous flow of government work to build industry confidence and to encourage business to grow. Early information about an upcoming project allows industry to build project teams, undertake workforce planning and manage cash flow including loans and investments. It’s all about creating jobs in a strong economy for thriving communities.

The Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative (ASMTI)

Mick Reilly,Business and Community Liaison from Department of Defence will deliver an update on this initiative which will see the delivery of enhanced military training areas in Central and North Queensland that will benefit the Australian Defence Force (ADF), provide significant local economic opportunities, and enhance Defence’s bilateral relationship with Singapore. Defence is using a new open-ended Market Sounding process, via AusTender, to seek information from contractors who may be interested in opportunities to undertake early works for the new training area with works scheduled to begin in early 2020.

Defence Hub

The Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning is maximising regional industry participation in major contractor supply chains across priority industries including defence and manufacturing.

The $5 million Queensland Defence Industry Hub – Townsville was established in 2019 to support North Queensland’s defence industry to be agile, resilient and responsive to Australian Defence Force and defence prime contractors requirements in a rapidly changing global environment.The Hub is delivering skills development initiatives, capability workshops and relationship building events to assist North Queensland businesses to grow their capability and position for work opportunities.

70 The Strand

Lachlan Bell Consulting will give an update on the 70 The Strand Project, which is a $17M redevelopment that will incorporate a two storey bar and restaurant and 12 luxury apartments. The residential tower is constructed over six levels, each containing two apartments with views ranging from Pallarenda through to the Port and Castle Hill. The restaurant and bar will be a unique and contemporary offering with direct frontage to The Strand incorporating outdoor dining on to a landscaped and covered footpath.
