TOUR GUIDING FUNDAMENTALS

Are you new to the tourism industry?

Do you aspire to be a tour guide - one of the most rewarding and enriching careers in the visitor economy?

Would you like to be job-ready for employment?

Leading industry association, Tour Guides Australia, is offering a short course designed to provide foundation skills for people interested in a tour guide career.

Many experienced tour guides left the industry during the COVID pandemic. With the return of international visitors, employers are seeking tour guides who are equipped to capably manage groups and deliver excellent service to guests.

The course is led by industry professionals who both train and work as professional tour guides. Additional insights and current real-world experiences from accredited tour guides working in a diverse range of settings across Australia, are embedded in the course and shared with participants.

Participants can expect to gain basic knowledge, skills and understandings across six themes that Tour Guides Australia recognises as minimum industry standards for entry-level professional tour guides:

  1. Cultural and social awareness
  2. Customer service
  3. Occupational health and safety
  4. Safety and legislation
  5. Storytelling
  6. Organising a tour

The 3-day course will run on non-consecutive days:

  • Day 1 - Tuesday 10 September 2024
  • Day 2 - Wednesday 11 September 2024
  • Day 3 - Friday 13 September 2024

Tour Guides Australia has undertaken professional tour guide accreditation and provided ongoing professional development for its members since 1985. It is a member-run organisation offering education, advocacy and career support.

ADDED BONUS!

Your Tour Guiding Fundamentals course registration includes a FREE Affiliate membership offer to Tour Guides Australia until 30 June 2025.  This is an important way you can remain connected to the tour guide industry and to be supported in your career journey.  The complimentary Affiliate membership represents a VALUE TO YOU of up to $112. Both the joining fee and up to 15 months’ membership (depending on your joining date), are being waived.

Your successful completion of Tour Guiding Fundamentals may lead to accreditation with Tour Guides Australia and is aligned with a national strategy outcome to increase acceptance of micro-credentialing as a recognised and valued form of training in the visitor economy for tour guides. Participants will receive an industry-recognised certificate upon completion.

Morning tea and lunch is included each day.
