About this event

  • 7 hours 30 minutes

To prevent domestic violence in our communities, we need more than talk-fests, academic theories and the same old "ambulance at the bottom of the cliff" approaches. We need a preventative army at the top of the problem with proven practical tools and strategies for engaging potential abusers and disarming DV before it even begins.

If you're working with people in the community space, the church or welfare sectors, this training is for you. Tools for Preventing Domestic Violence will equip you with a good working understanding of the nature and dynamics of domestic violence, and will teach you the tried and tested strategies for deep engagement with people wishing to put down their abusive behaviours. As an added benefit of this free training, you can also be equipped to deliver the Circuit Breaker program in your community as a trained facilitator (satisfies all training elements).

The training includes:

  • The nature and dynamics of domestic abuse
  • Why DV victims don't just leave
  • Why and how people become abusers
  • The cycle of violence
  • What's anger got to do with it?
  • What does engagement look like?
  • Case Study: Why does the Circuit Breaker program work?
  • How to promote, prepare for and deliver your own program
  • Working with difficult people in the group process
  • Q & A and much, much more

Feedback from these events consistently rates this training with an average above 9 out of ten for the question, "how helpful did you find this training?" Our promise to you is that this will be time very well spent, (since we hate talkfests as much as you do : ) Registrations are essential for this free training. A certificate of attendance will be provided for those registering before June 13, so please register now to avoid disappointment.
