Description

To Know or to Think: how adults support and undermine children’s construction of knowledge

Presented by Alise Shafer Ivey, international early childhood expert proudly brought to you by KU Children’s Services.

Moving further into the 21st century with all its technological and scientific advances, we are challenged to rethink what it means to be educated.

The traditional call and response, memorisation of facts, and search for the simple truths will not serve our children in an age when information is abundant, sometimes false and often multi-layered. Instead, the 21st century demands good thinkers, creative thinkers who look at life through multiple lenses and people who can analyse and evaluate information.

How do parents engage in deep high level dialogue with their children in a way that will set young children on a course of inquiry, innovation and critical thinking

On the Day:

Arrive at 5:30pm for tea, coffee and light refreshments. The session will begin at 6.00pm and there will be plenty of time for questions. The evening will conclude at 7:30pm.
