We warmly invite you to join us for an engaging discussion to kick off the New Year, hosted by the UWA Defence and Security Institute in partnership with the UK Consul General in Perth, with Professor Alessio Patalano, one of the world’s leading voices on maritime strategy and Indo-Pacific security.

Professor Patalano will share why SRF-West matters so much to the UK and the Royal Navy, including the first preparatory visit of an Astute-class submarine in 2026. He will discuss what operating an Astute-class submarine from SRF-West will entail, as part of the broader Optimal Pathway outlined for AUKUS, how UK–Australia defence cooperation has evolved throughout 2025, and what to expect in 2026 and beyond.

This is a great chance to hear how these developments fit into the UK’s broader Indo-Pacific strategy, and why the region is becoming increasingly important for our shared security interests.
